Another way to check when you're ovulating is to take your temperature on a daily basis.
This is often referred to as BBT (Basal Body Temperature).
There's loads of information about this on the web.
In a nutshell:
- You take your temperature with a thermometer that measures smaller changes. e.g reading of 37.82c instead of 37c or 37.8c.
- Note these down daily.
- As ovulation approaches your temperature will increase.
- Once it's over your temperature will drop.
If you're pregnant, it will rise again and remain elevated.
Tips:
- You must take your temperature at the same time every day - immediately upon waking and before moving to get out of bed.
- For best results, use this alongside other methods, such as cervix position and mucus
- Consider taking a vaginal temp reading instead of mouth, as this stays quite consistent.
- Websites like fertilityfriend.co.uk are brilliant. They have a chart set up for you to record your daily info and teach you how to chart correctly.
Pros: non invasive, cheap, costs a few pounds
Cons: requires discipline, temps easily affected by change in time zones, shift work, being unwell or even sleeping with the window or your mouth open!
This method tells you that ovulation has taken place. It doesn't predict ovulation.
You'll need to do this for a few months, to establish a pattern for when you usually ovulate.
